About Me - The Behaviourist
![]()
I gained an Honours Degree from the University of Reading in 1997and became interested in the concept of Canine Behaviour and rehabilitation after obtaining my second dog, Jake; a Black Labrador/Staffordshire Terrier cross who had an aggressive problem with other dogs. After training classes had little effect in rectifying this behavioural problem (although they did help with basic training needs) I decided to study Jake’s problem for myself and went on to Qualify with Distinction from a number of Behavioural Schools in Canine Behaviour studies as well as qualifying as a Class Trainer. Since qualifying, I have continued studies in zoological studies as well as undertaking the NEC’s Zoo Animal Management course.
My studies have not just been textbook based - I have studied wolves and undertaken written research and have written articles for Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire as well as working as an Intern for Bristol Zoological Gardens for 3 months where I undertook private study regarding Meerkat behaviour and course-related study of Red Panda Breeding behaviours. These studies are still ongoing as a personal interest. I have also studied all manner of breeds in the canine world through my voluntary pursuits at Bath RSPCA as a Dog-Walker which has led me to come in to contact with dogs both large and small, quiet and dominant over a number of years which has been invaluable to my learning experience.
I have also run my own behavioural school based in Bristol dealing with aggressive dogs, rescue dogs and those with general in-home problems until my move back to Somerset in April 2001. Now I live with 6 dogs, 9 cats, 4 Giant African Land Snails, 2 Degu’s and 2 House-rabbits in the middle of nowhere.
My new venture for 2001-2002 is to study to gain a Diploma in Magnet Therapy with the British School of Yoga as I am interested in the beneficial effects that Magnetic Forces have in assisting illnesses such as arthritis in dogs etc.
I have also run a free e-mail behavioural service in the past as well as offering free one-to-one consultations within a 10 mile radius of her residence. These became so popular that I could no longer hold down a full time job as well as offering free consultations every evening and at weekends that Canine Solutions has become a small business venture. Since setting up ‘Canine Solutions’ as a business, I have been asked by New Life Vitamins to sell their products, as I am a great believer in the nutritional value of vitamins in dogs and their profound effect on Canine Behaviours and feelings of well-being. My services are also recognised by BURNS dog foods who recommend me to their clients who seek advice regarding problem pet behaviour.
I would like to thank BURNS and New Life for all their assistance to date. Please visit their sites (follow the links).
I hope you enjoy the site, although aspects of it are still under construction and look forward to helping you with your Canine (and Feline) queries in the future.
